Below are the highlights of our accomplishments in 2019

In 2019, we funded a genetics assistant for The James Cancer Hospital Gynecology Oncology Program to help contact families of ovarian cancer patients who never had genetic testing. It is important to know if the ovarian cancer in the family is due to hereditary cause so that at-risk family members could be offered genetic counselling/testing because we have a chance to lower risk in these highest risk families. There has been over 50% increase in current patients receiving genetic testing and counselling since the program was started. The genetics assistant is also in the process of contacting 200 ovarian cancer patients in remission to offer services and over 400 relatives of deceased ovarian cancer patients who never had genetic testing. These survivors and relatives are now being offered a visit with the genetic counselor and receiving genetic testing if they choose to do so.

Meet KELSIE – New Hospice Bereavement Service Dog

She works closely with bereavement families and especially with Community Grief at OhioHealth Hospice. Kelsie works with both youth and adult bereavement groups and individual counseling sessions. We know that Kelsie will bring countless smiles to patients and families during very challenging times, and that her presence on the bereavement team will have a huge impact for so many in need.
